Better Understanding Leads to Better Healthcare Outcomes
When it comes to healthcare, what you don’t know CAN hurt you. Health literacy is the ability to understand health information and to use that knowledge to make informed decisions about the care a patient receives. Instilling this knowledge is central to our work — it is the “why” behind our vision.
Consider this: according to the National Assessment of Adult Literacy, only 12 percent of adults have a proficient understanding of health information. In other words, nearly nine out of ten adults may lack the skills needed to manage their health and prevent disease. In a recent article published by the Cleveland Clinic, it projected that soon medical knowledge will double every 73 days, compared to doubling every 50 years in the 1950s, and physicians are finding it difficult to keep up.
That harsh reality resonated with ARDVRK Founder, John O’Brien.
After a successful career in the life sciences industry, John became passionate about the issue of health literacy during a frustrating personal journey with his own medical realities. What he learned along the way was both tragic and transformative. ARDVRK Technologies was born from John’s story, and is the driving force behind everything we do.
With AR and VR, seeing is not only believing, it’s understanding. ARDVRK creates SaaS products that help patients and their caregivers better visualize medical conditions and the appropriate pathway to managing or preventing disease. We call it “demystifying healthcare” — and it’s the first step toward improving health literacy.
With new medications, medical devices, protocols, and procedures coming into practice nearly every day, physicians cannot remain complacent with their skills and knowledge. They must continually find effective ways to engage, immerse and absorb new information with limited time. ARDVRK builds AR/VR multimedia solutions to help healthcare professionals maintain their skills in the ever-changing clinical world.
